Cultural Authenticity
I have seen that this text is culturally authentic. I know this from the Author's note in the back of the book. I know this from the glossary and bibliography in the back of the book. It is evident that Tonatiuh is passionate about segregation and inequality. He has done extensive research and talks very knowledgeably of events that have happened in the past. He wrote this story to of course educate and inform the readers of the history of the Mendez family, but also so that readers can see themselves in Slyvia's story and grow into the strong and valuable voice they have to contribute to our country.
